Two Philadelphia Hit-and-Run Accidents Reported on April 13

    Posted on | April 14, 2015 |

Philly.com has reported two separate hit-and-run accidents which occurred in Philadelphia on Monday April 13, 2015.  In these accidents, a 4-year-old boy was killed and a 19-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son were critically injured.

Car Accident 2The first accident happened at 6:30 p.m. on 57th and Litchfield Street in the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia.  In that accident, a 4-year-old was crossing the street when he was hit by an SUV which was reportedly driven by a woman heading north on 57th. As a result, the boy suffered severe head trauma and was taken for medical treatment Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the young child was pronounced dead later that evening.

In a second hit-and-run accident that occurred around 7 p.m. a woman was carrying her son in a car seat and was crossing the street when she was hit by a white newer-model Nissan with two males in it. The accident occurred in the 2700 block of North Mascher Street in  North Philadelphia. As a result of the impact, the woman was thrown under a pickup truck and the baby landed on the sidewalk. A good Samaritan passing by took the victims to Episcopal Hospital and they were later transferred to other trauma centers.  The child is reported to be in extremely critical condition. The mother is in critical but stable condition.

As reported above, hit-and-run accidents can happen unexpectedly and result in debilitating injuries or death to innocent victims. Although you can not always protect yourself from the negligent and reckless acts of other drivers, you should carry adequate insurance so you are covered financially if a tragedy occurs.

Philadelphia car accident lawyer, Brent Wieand, strongly recommends that all Pennsylvania drivers select Uninsured Motorist (UM) insurance with limits of at least 100k/300k. UM coverage can help pay for damages caused by an uninsured driver or in a hit and run accident.  UM coverage will protect you whether you are in your vehicle or a pedestrian. In addition to covering the insured, UM coverage protects immediate family members who reside in your household. If you are hit by an uninsured driver, UM insurance will pay for medical expenses, lost wages (past, present and future), pain and suffering, as well as other economic losses.

Attorney Brent Wieand has dedicated his practice to representing clients in Philadelphia who were seriously injured in car accidents.  Whether you were catastrophically injured, or simply want a free legal consultation to answer questions concerning your accident, give Brent a call at 1(888) 789-3161. Brent Wieand is based in Philadelphia and proud to represent people injured in car accidents throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
