Losing a loved one in a car crash is devastating. In addition to what can seem like an unbearable grieving process, following a fatal accident, it’s important that you make informed decisions that serve you and your family. This includes taking the needed steps to ensure that your family’s financial future is secure. A wrongful death attorney in your area can help you understand the steps you must consider to preserve your rights related to the wrongful death of your loved one.

Importantly, you should not wait to seek legal counsel following an accident. This is necessary because the time to file a claim is limited. In New Jersey, the statute of limitations on wrongful death claims is two years from the date of the accident. If you fail to file a lawsuit or settle your claim before the statute of limitations runs you will be precluded from bringing a claim in the future.
